As electric vehicles become part of everyday life, the need for reliable, accessible charging infrastructure has never been greater. We're proud to share a milestone in that shift: RJB Contracting recently completed Pennsylvania's first NEVI-funded EV charging station — the state's second operational government-funded station overall — in Aston, PA. Equipped with Tesla DC fast chargers, the project reflects our commitment to sustainable transportation and puts us among the first to build out Pennsylvania's EV charging network.

The project aligns with state and federal efforts to expand EV access. It's part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, through which Pennsylvania is helping build a national charging network. NEVI is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which allocates $7.5 billion to expand EV charging across the country.

"I think there's right around 10 or 11 sites operational in the country, so we have two of them."

— Colton Brown, alternative fuels infrastructure coordinator, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation

Pennsylvania is moving quickly, with 80 stations expected by the end of 2025 across three rounds of federal funding — part of a larger effort spanning 33 states using NEVI funds.

Pennsylvania's Role in Expanding EV Access

The NEVI program targets Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) stations along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors. These stations are meant to reduce range anxiety and make charging practical for both local and long-distance trips. Pennsylvania is set to receive $171.5 million over five years to put chargers where drivers need them and ready them for growing demand.

NEVI Compliance: Building for Growth

NEVI is designed around a connected, reliable network: stations no more than 50 miles apart on designated corridors and within one mile of highway exits. Building to NEVI standards means Pennsylvania isn't just meeting today's EV demand — it's ready for the growth expected over the next decade.

What's Next

The move to electric vehicles is happening now, and the infrastructure to support it is growing every day. As the country expands its EV network through programs like NEVI, RJB Contracting is proud to take part in these projects. With our experience and our focus on sustainability, we're helping build a cleaner future.
